Here is a useful little program: AllPeers. It allows using P2P technology to share files on a private network with friends, family, work colleagues or whoever has the program installed. All that is required is to grab whatever you want to share - a file, folder, image or even a web page - and drag it onto your friend’s name in the AllPeers buddy list. When your friend sees an alert message and accepts the download, the transfer begins.
AllPeers is a Firefox add-on. That’s not only generally handy for web 2.0 fans like me, it’s also convenient when you want to send images and the like directly from a webpage - simply drag them from the page onto the receiver’s name; the same goes for a whole webpage: simply drag the tab and share.
Another nice feature of AllPeers is that it incorporates a chat program which, unlike Google’s Hello allows to send messages even if the recipient is offline - very handy. AllPeers is a bit like Pando but much more user-friendly and feature rich. For a tour of how AllPeers works click here.
AllPeers, Ltd. claims that its network is private and secure, but they require an e-mail address for sign-up, so be sure to read the company’s privacy policy first.
